Let me tell you something I hear almost daily in my therapy room:

"I don't know why I'm like this. I know I should be more confident. I just… can't seem to get there."

And the part that always stands out to me. These women are usually incredibly capable. They're good at their jobs, thoughtful friends, caring partners and parents. From the outside, they look like they've got it together.

But internally, there's a quiet (or sometimes very loud) voice saying: You're not enough. You're going to be found out. Everyone else is coping better than you are.

Your mind took those experiences and made meaning from them: I'm not clever enough. I'm not likeable. It's safer not to stand out.
