FAQs
It’s completely normal to feel curious (or even a bit unsure) about hypnotherapy, especially if it’s new to you. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions I’m asked.
And if there’s anything else you’re wondering, we can talk it through during your free consultation.

Hypnosis is a completely natural, focused state — similar to when you’re daydreaming, driving on autopilot or winding down before sleep. You’re deeply relaxed, but still fully aware and in control.
It’s simply a way to quiet the busy, analytical part of the mind, so we can work more effectively with the subconscious, where emotions, habits and beliefs live.
There are lots of myths about hypnosis (mostly from TV or stage shows), but rest assured: you can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to. Hypnotherapy is gentle, collaborative and empowering. You’ll hear my voice throughout and can speak, move or open your eyes at any time.
In this relaxed state, we can start to understand the root of whatever’s going on — and gently shift the patterns that are no longer serving you.

Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious mind, where your automatic thoughts, habits and emotional reactions are stored. Often, these patterns are formed in childhood or through past experiences, and they’re not always easy to shift consciously.
Hypnosis helps us gently access this deeper layer and make meaningful change from the inside out. You won’t have to ‘relive’ anything painful — we simply work with the root of the issue, reframe it and help you feel more in control.
Brain-wise, it’s like switching from your usual fast-paced thinking mode into a calmer, more creative one — ideal for emotional processing and creating change.

The consultation is a chance for us to chat through your concerns, for you to ask questions, and to see whether hypnotherapy feels like the right fit.
I'll also ask about your history and current situation so I can tailor a plan that’s safe and supportive for you. In some cases, I might need to liaise with your GP (for example, if you're taking certain medications or have a medical condition). But we’ll always talk this through together.
It’s important to me that you feel informed, comfortable and never rushed. Trust is a big part of this work, and the consultation is a lovely starting point for building that together.

Before we start, you’ll fill out a short intake form. Then, whether you’re coming in person or meeting me online, I’ll welcome you into a calm, confidential space.
We’ll begin with a relaxed chat about how you're feeling. I’ll explain the process and answer any questions. Then I’ll guide you into a gentle, focused state of awareness, where the real therapeutic work begins. You’ll hear my voice throughout, and we’ll communicate during the session. You’re always in control.
Sometimes big emotions may come up — that’s completely normal, and I’ll support you through it with care and experience.
By the end of the session, you’ll feel grounded, clear and fully back in the room. Hypnotherapy isn’t magic, but it can feel magical when you begin to notice real change.

Hypnotherapy is a wonderful tool for many people, but it isn’t right for everyone.
Some conditions need specialist care or medical treatment. In those cases, I may ask for GP consent or refer you to another professional. For example, I wouldn’t work with someone experiencing psychosis or severe mental illness, and I’d always need to know if you’re taking medication or under medical care.
Please note: Hypnosis isn’t suitable for those with epilepsy, but I’m able to use other therapeutic tools to support you.
Your safety comes first, and I’ll always be honest if I feel hypnotherapy isn’t the right path for now.

Absolutely. Your privacy matters.
Anything you share is treated with complete confidentiality, and I only ever share information if there’s a legal requirement or risk of serious harm. I follow all data protection laws and keep your records secure.
I also have regular supervision (as all therapists do), but your identity is always protected.

You’re not expected to know everything upfront. The initial consultation is a safe space to ask anything you’re unsure about — there’s no pressure, and no such thing as a silly question. I promise.
